In the internet era, I think that I don’t have any excuse to boarder my mind or to overcome any skills. As I mentioned in my previous posting that I’ve BIG problem in writing. While I’ve meet with my friend, she said about ilearn@america program concerning in writing English. I believe that something didn’t happen fortuitously, It’s like… the universe conspire… Therefore I decided to join in this program, the first thing I must register at edx.org.. whoaaa… this web is similar with coursera.org!!! then, I send email to @america.
Today, the first session from this course has began, we have introduced about MOOC ! Do anybody here know about MOOC? Me? Absolutely, I don’t have any idea about what is MOOC , then after I heard the explanation, I don’t realized that I’ve already used the MOOC 😀 since I was in university!
MOOC is abbreviation from Massive Open Online Course for instance edx or coursera. The first time I’ve used MOOC, through MIT open course 🙂 I absolutely agree to William (our teacher @America from US Embassy) who said that MOOC is new vehicle and revolutionary way to gain knowledge from university or from professor around the world without cost any money. You can imagine, you can learn from the best expertise in the world via your PC or laptop with internet. Study with MOOC requires high determination for study because self study. There are five things to achieve success learning with MOOC: Orient, Declare, Network, Cluster and FOCUS.
Then, we learn about Vocabulary Development. Vocabulary become an important thing to learn because words like basic blocks of building. We can’t write or express our ideas without learn any vocabulary. In this session, I got an answer why I seems lack of vocabulary while writing even I spend much time reading. The Professor from UC Berkeley, Maggie Sokolik said that reading was effective way to get vocabulary as passive vocab but not necessary use in speaking and writing, and William added that some people read just for fun (me included in that people) and just ignore the words that they couldn’t understand then continue to reading, they understand the sentences not words by words. William suggest, before we go to dictionary, it’s better to know the context of the words. People use 4000-5000 English vocabularies to active communication in daily lives.
