As requested by my best fried, I will upload some pictures of my culinary exploration in Surabaya. It was really challenging, because many times I’ve forgot to taken pictures before the food were eaten. While I am hungry, only the words of “eat.eat.eat” are spinning around my brain.
Therefore these pictures were taken with a huge efforts =P
The ice cream above is one of palatable the Zangrandi’s ice cream. If you come to Surabaya, visiting Zangarandi is on top list of my recommendation. An early Zangrandi resto is situated near from Tunjungan Plaza and now they have many branches, such as at Galaxy Mall.
For me, it was deliciously succulent ice cream, not too sweet and I guess it does not contain any milk. I can taste four different flavor of ice cream on banana split. Unfortunately, this portion too big for me as a common portion of banana split in Jakarta.
Then, the second picture was spinach spaghetti with mushroom. Actually this is not related with any signature dish of Surabaya. But, I just found this resto of spaghetti-spaghetti at Galaxy Mall and I really like the taste. soo yummmyyyy! In addition, this spaghetti really affordable! One fifth cheaper than a typical spaghetti in Jakarta =).
Nasi bebek (duck rice) is really popular in Surabaya, so many places provide nasi bebek. One of famous place is Nasi Bebek Haritsa. Although, the duck taste is not very delicious as people said so, but still you must try it =D because there a lot of choices spicy sauces that rarely available in other places outside Surabaya.
Agaaain, this is not any variant of traditional food from surabaya, as you have seen, it is pizza. A heart pizza. That makes differences. A heart shapes. Found in restaurant near my boarding house, known as Dunia Steak =)
I think Surabaya people fond into a heart shape. This a heart rice with squid not really tasty, but beautiful appearance is worth to share =P not to be mentioned, the price is really cheap! The love rice shape is signature of Gotri (O, with the shapeof love) resto.
This is a sweet temptation of Madura porridge. This porridge, consist many variation of bubur sumsum, bubur ketan, pacar cina oh… I must find suitable description in English. The taste is luscious=)
This kind of fish and chips is available everywhere. But this portion, fresh from the House of Sampoerna cafe =D. I really like a vintage cafe’s atmosphere. Despite the taste is not more delicious than Jakarta moreover the price quite expensive (even more expensive than in Jakarta!).
This kind of crispy steak from Warung Steak near from my boarding house. The price is reallyyyyy cheap! More cheaper than Warung Steak and Shake. The taste is quite Ok, for this range of price. And sooo may choices of menu.
An angkringan in Surabaya. Angkringan is a food stall which easily found in Yogyakarta with their famous nasi kucing menus. I’m happy found this angkringan as very little portion of rice =D
Yeaaayyy, I,’ve felt Jogjakartaaaa atmosphere, especially the seller originally come from Jogjakarta. I loooooove their ginger drink. It was my savior when I had a sore throat.
